On Saturday 20 May, Kariong Eco Garden will be holding the “Autumn” season event of the 4 Seasons Nature Nights, cnr of Dandaloo St and Woy Woy Road, Kariong, from 5pm to 8pm.
Entry is FREE and donations of $5 and over go in the draw for a Fruit and Vege tray kindly donated by Local business Kariong Quality Fruit (Home Deliveries). All proceeds support future events and Education for Sustainability programs at the garden.
“We have decided to call our events Nature Nights as it’s a bit like a big night picnic in the garden. Kids can bring a torch and check out what is happening in the pond and keep an eye on the nest-boxes to observe any comings and goings. In autumn and winter we have a campfire,” says one of the event organisers, Lisa Wriley.
We are very honoured to have local Aboriginal Elder Gavi Duncan Welcome us to Country – with song and story – at each of our four seasonal events and local musicians singing.
This year the Autumn and Spring events will feature pedal-powered short films from the local community – with a People’s Choice Award of a $50 voucher from FoodWorks Kariong up for grabs. The winter event will be a Trivia Night to raise money for the Eco Garden and celebrate 10 years since the Official opening in 2007.
The winning short film at the Summer 4 Seasons night, “My Pride, My Place” was made by local budding film-maker Egan Thornycroft:
“My short film “My Place, My Pride” was inspired by the area in which I grew up. I have lived on the coast from day one, being born in Gosford Hospital. This was one of my first short films I ever made and taught me quite a bit about the camera which I had just spent all my savings on. I still use my camera to this day for my video and photo projects.”
This year Egan has started studying Film and Media at Newcastle TAFE and is planning to go travelling to expand on his skills as a filmmaker and a photographer.
“It’s never too late to start something and there is always something new to learn. There is so much in this world to capture and it’s truly thrilling being able to share that with friends, family and the internet. “
The upcoming “Autumn” event will be on Saturday 20 May. Short films submitted to Kariong Eco Garden by 5pm on Friday 12 May will be considered for showing on the night. Once again the People’s Choice Prize will be a $50 voucher kindly donated by FoodWorks Kariong.
