Sandcastles for Climate Action

  • Umina Beach Surf Life Saving Club 509 Ocean Beach Road Umina Beach, NSW, 2257 Australia (map)

Parents for Climate Central Coast is calling on all Federal election candidates to prioritize urgent climate action. They will convene at Umina Beach at 10am on Sunday, March 23. The group invites candidates vying for the Robertson seat to join them on the beach in support of climate crisis solutions. Co-founder Suzie Brown remarked, “We seek commitments from all political sides to accelerate renewable energy and phase out fossil fuels to keep our planet and homes cool.” She expressed, “As cyclones and floods become more frequent, we parents are truly worried about our children’s future. We want candidates to take decisive action against carbon pollution.”

Candidates will be invited to sign a pledge to: lower energy costs through healthy solutions like solar power; protect homes, schools, and childcare centres from extreme heat; and enhance access to affordable solar and battery-powered energy.

The rally will also include a sandcastle sculpting competition, encouraging families to build sand sculptures symbolizing what they value and wish to protect in the coastal environment.

Any concerned parent or grandparent regarding the warming planet is invited to attend the rally and engage with the group at www.parentsforclimate.org/central_coast. Parents for Climate is a non-partisan, solution-oriented organisation with over 20,000 supporters, including local groups from every Australian state and territory.

Local parents established a Central Coast group last year.

Sandcastles for Climate Action will take place at 10am on March 23 at Umina Beach, in front of Umina Beach Surf Life Saving Club, located at 509 Ocean Beach Rd.
